Description of Project Activities

In the first part of the project our focus is on the past, present
and future through a contemporary personal projection, and in the second
phase, the programme takes the inventory forward into a
discursive observation, understanding and gaining knowledge of the participating children and young people’s own 'rights', which have been withheld.

1. Drama based multi arts workshops as a out of school program, involving devising on the theme 'One World, Our World' -introduction to arts and performance, in which we examine the group's shared aspirations and concerns as a community through devising songs, dances and drama based on personal experiences.
Objectives include using performing arts and drama role-play as media for exploring personal identity and debating shared commonalities.

2. ' The future is out there ' – dramatic exploration, skills development, performance, exhibition
. The process involves working in four- week blocks, using performance art forms - drama, dance, visual arts, poetry, music/songwriting - to creatively explore the theme of life in the millennium and for the participants to project their fantasies, fears and expectations for the future.
The second objective of this project is to provide the opportunity for all the participants to explore and develop talents and interests.
Participating young people work together to create a dramatic show reflecting their combined view of what the future holds for all of them as a group. The show aims to reflect the different personal/cultural views of the groups within a collective piece.

3. Multi-arts communication SELF ADVOCACY programme
The Self Advocacy programme advocates working with the young people in
Two groups according to age and the creation of three separate but
Linked pieces of work

FAZE 1 a case study diary of projects developed to date (both groups)
FAZE 2 A-Z OF CHILDRENS RIGHTS (8-14 YEAR OLDS)
FAZE 3 LABYRYNTH (14-21 YEAR OLDS)

Objectives include to:
* develop self-advocacy awareness based on articles from the UN's
Children's Rights Charter and UN Convention for Human Rights
* develop the project case study and evaluation as a diary to be published
* develop and publish the created poems, songs, stories, and drawings
(which reflect reasoning, comments, and questions arising by participants)
relating to each stage of the process and the sub-themes worked on
* develop age group related projects using stories and articles from UN
Children's Rights
use drama as the stimulus for debate and empowerment
* develop skills transferable to a classroom context
* create an interactive arts based project
* create a project with developmental themes
* develop a methodology where participants have ownership of the material and means of production
* involve participants in the selection and decision making processes
* facilitate acquisition of career-orientated skills
* celebrate/develop individual talents and interests
* encourage participants to work collectively and to take responsibility for representing their peers
* making learning fun
* develop this as a pilot project and template for future work with Refugees and Displaced Persons
